NCAA football fans this season got to witness one of the best Fiesta Bowls of all time, perhaps the best, in a 41-38 overtime thriller won by Oklahoma State, but only after Stanford missed two field goals at the end of regulation and in overtime. But the game has been in the spotlight a couple of times because of off-field problems, which were largely avoided this season.
In 1996, No.5 BYU had a great season and they would have been a team to watch out for by players that use price per head systems, but they were overlooked by Fiesta Bowl committee members, who gave the nod to No.7 Penn State, who went on thump No.20 Texas 38-15 (Texas was automatically selected because of a conference tie-in). A group staged a protest, which included the burning of Tostitos bags as the main sponsor of the game.
However, that was nothing compared to what went down in 2010, when it was revealed that some Fiesta Bowl officials threw parties for BCS officials to try and sway them in favor of the game. But that was just the tip of the iceberg because in 2009, it was stated that employees of the Fiesta Bowl were asked to donate to the game’s campaign, and they would be reimbursed, which is against the law.
But the BCS allowed the Fiesta Bowl to stay (they were fined $1 million), which means it is still eligible to host the national-title game in a rotation and it is a game that you should definitely pay attention to when you’re visiting online betting sites. |

Even NHL fans like to get in on the college bowl action in NCAA football, and the BCS bowls are the biggest of them all. The Fiesta Bowl falls under the umbrella of the BCS and this year’s contest features a potential classic matchup between Stanford and Oklahoma State, but you should know a little about the history of the game.
The Fiesta Bowl is held every year in Glendale, Arizona, and it kicked off in 1971 with a 45-38 win by Arizona State over Florida State. Four teams have appeared in the Fiesta Bowl six times (Arizona State, Penn State, Ohio State and Nebraska), but Penn State holds the record for most wins with six. With the exception of last year’s 28-point blowout of Connecticut by Oklahoma and the Sooners’ 20-point loss to West Virginia in 2008, those that use price per head software have been treated to exciting games over the last decade like Boise State’s seven-point win over TCU in 2010 and of course, the Broncos’ overtime thriller over Oklahoma in 2007.
Big 12 teams are tied into the Fiesta Bowl, which is why Oklahoma State is here, but pairing the Cowboys with Stanford sets up an offensively charged matchup in a bowl game that likes its offense: since 2000, all but two games have had at least one team scoring 30 points, so take a good, long look at the total before making your college football betting picks. |

Some Vancouver Canucks fans may be familiar with Stanford’s football program in Northern California, especially with Andrew Luck, the quarterback destined to be the No.1 pick in this year’s draft. But the Cardinal will have their hands full with an explosive Oklahoma State team many feel should be in the national title game.
Stanford Oklahoma State Odds – January 2nd, 8:30 PM ET
The No.4 Cardinal (11-1, 8-1 Pac 12) may be kicking themselves after a 23-point loss at Oregon three weeks ago, and Luck may no longer be the favorite for the Heisman by those who use pay per head companies, but Stanford can put up points with anyone in the country and their defense is better than you think. This is their first trip to the Fiesta Bowl, and this will be tougher than last year’s rout of Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
The No.3 Cowboys (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) dominated rival Oklahoma in the “Bedlam” game, and some feel that was enough to vault them past Alabama and into a meeting with LSU for all the marbles, but they came up just short. Brandon Weeden leads an offense that has been more balanced than usual, but can they slow down Luck?
The Cowboys are favored by 3.5 points in their first trip to the Fiesta Bowl since a 16-6 win over BYU in 1974, and this is the first meeting for these two programs. It should be a shootout, but usually when that happens, defenses feel disrespected and play much better. We’re going with an Oklahoma State team that feels slighted by the BCS snub.
